Advertisment for the Exhibition 2009

AUSWANDERN / MOVEMENT

Kloster Weißenohe (Alte Mälzerei), Gemeinde Weißenohe

Background

In 2009 the fifth exhibition by KunstRaum Weissenohe will take place in the small village and former monastery of Weissenohe, which is close to Nuremberg in the tourist and hiking region of Upper Franconia. After five years of experience with artistst from Germany, this will be the first international art project in Weissenohe.

Auswandern / Movement is about Man. One has left his place or familiar ground. His position might have been a geographical one, a conviction or a habit. One is no longer where he once belonged, but (knows) not yet where he wants to be. The past was impossible to stand, the future is impossible to imagine and hope became the only light. What drove him away, made him fear? What did he leave behind? What awaits him?

Terms like IDENTITY, ASYLUM, HUMAN RIGHTS and ASSIMILATION gain a dominant meaning in this context. The renaissance of mocking euphemisms in our language will be a theme, too. Just as the so called fate and its causes unveil themselves as a consequence of political action.

Intentions, planned activity

Over the years the KunstRaum exhibitions developed into a meeting point in fine arts and attracted artists and numerous visitors from the Nuremberg metropolitan region as well as from the local area. Until today the major activities of KunstRaum Weissenohe have taken place in the building and courtyard of  the former monastery and its nearer periphery, mainly in the old malt production halls of the brewery and its ample attic.

In 2009 we’ll extend the exhibition into the Weissenohe surrounding area and install artworks in open spaces and natural settings: in meadows, pastures and along forests in a round trip of approximately 2.5 kilometres.

Artists from several European countries will participate in the Auswandern/Movement project and the team of curators will be international, too.

We hope to gather a wide range of contemporary art categories, above all sculptures and weather resistant pieces of art. We will also welcome European refugee and migrant organisations to accompany the indoor exhibition. The old malt production hall offers additional room for exhibition, information and any kind of performance and activity.

Organisation
A team of European (EU) curators will work out the theme and select artists from each country.

Realization

Deadline for applications (drafts, descriptions and photographs) will be April 15th, 2009. Fom this moment, we’ll start to find matching places for the chosen artwork along the footpath and prepare the ground for their erection, if necessary. The editing of the catalogue will start as soon as the collection of data is finished. Participating artists will build up their constructions on their own, helping hands will be available most of the time. The walking tour has space for more than 100 objects.
